about

The Hanuman Chaleesa is one of the most chanted of Hindu Prayers. Written in Sanskrit, the ancient language of the East over 400 years ago, this prayer has inspired hundreds of different melodies across our world.

The story behind the Chalisa is that Hanuman, son of the God of Wind, was very full of himself as a youth, parading his superhuman strength to all. The gods stripped Hanuman of all memory of his innate power. In this way, Hanuman could no longer act from a place of ego, but rather out of a call to love. Each verse trumpets the 1 of 40 amazing feats Hanuman victoriously won for the greater good of all!

Winded during a spin with pneumonia, I began chanting the Chalisa daily and put it to memory. For me, Hanuman symbolizes our vital breath; that essential unseen force in life. The melody on this cd was born from the healing. The writings about breath, inspired from the chanting.

They say when the Chalisa is chanted, that Hanuman can remember his power. With every verse of this Hanuman Chalisa, I pray that we, like Hanuman, can awaken the intimate and sacred potency of our breath.
Gracefully, may we recall the superhuman divinity breathing within us all ~

The Song of Breath ~
Although we can’t hear it, our Breath has a song. The inhale, a song of our Birth, singing that breath is a part of Life, an invitation to blossom and grow amidst the life giving sun and the darkest of moons... the exhale, melody of Transitioning, a visceral ‘letting go’ punctuated with the promise
that nothing on our beloved earth was ever designed to be permanent and that we are all music makers in this symphony of life!
