Several years ago I attended a spiritual gathering with Sri Mata Amritanandamayi, a master teacher from India who travels the globe raising funds for disaster relief projects, schools and hospitals all around our beloved world. Affectionately named the "hugging saint,"I was so moved by the LOV E pouring forth from this beautiful mother as she tirelessly for over 16 hours opened her arms and embraced about a thousand people! This hug she gave each of us is called receiving darshan and is considered a sacred blessing. Since I have met Amma my heart has opened tenfold and this chant honoring "The Divine Mother" is indeed inspired by Sri Amma.
Kirtan is a form of chanting from the East where the mantra has a "call" (the lead vocal) and a "response" (the chorus). As a mantra is sung back and forth from call to response and back again, an ecstatic spiraling of sound can emanate vibrating up to the stars!
